S: Standing on back shelter box. Flew back and forth between back high perch and shelter box a few times. Made 7 full passes total between front shelter box and back high perches. Initially, would struggle to make full passes and maintain height, but passes got better as time went on. Grounded a couple times, but was able to fly back up to high perches/shelter box. Flapping a lot.

O: Raked and brushed feeding platform. Dropped 35 g of mouse and rat. Collected 6 casts. Encouraged some flight.

A: BAR. Flight is okay. Appears to be affected by stress, with flight worse upon initial entry. Able to make full passes, but sometimes grounds.

O: Exercised. Flew three passes without issue, tried a few more but crashed into the walls and once the platform and shelter in the back. Brush off perches and platform. Collected 9g of scrap. Dropped 39g of chick.

A: Bird not flying high and stuck to making low small flights along the ground. Did not see any broken feathers in mew. Will continue to monitor flights to make sure that bird is progressing while feathers are trying to grow.

A: BAR. Tail feathers appear to be breaking at fault bars. Talons getting some length back but still dulled. Plantar aspect of feet OK. Flight feathers OK. Still struggles with flight - don't think it's worth the feather damage to intentionally exercise in this enclosure. Weight likely down a bit due to increased activity from transition back to daily bucket cleans since last weigh.

Some gaps in feathers of left wing and in tail.

A: BAR. Avoidant. Flying well in beginning, then failed to complete final pass. Some feathers still seen growing in on L wing.

S: On high perch upon entry. Flew to ground when approached, netted from ground. After release, flew directly up to hide box perch, flew back and forth across enclosure multiple times without grounding.

O: Caught for weight and feather check. Applied Prep H to feet and TMTs. Bucket cleaned enclosure. Collected 3g bone scrap, many casts. Dropped 35g rat and mouse.

A: BAR. Improving overall. Feet/talons still have a long way to go. Bird is now able to sustain more flight and doesn't go directly to ground. Several strong fault bars present on tail feathers, but otherwise bird has very few feathers IB and risk of breakage is less. Move back to regular bucket cleaning to prompt a little more exercise.

Tail has stopped growing short of normal and is heavily stress barred. Former burn areas on legs and feet are still pale/thin with no scale coverage. Applied prep-h to thin skin areas. Talons are regrowing but are still very pale and blunt. Bucket cleaned and changed water. Dropped 29g rat.

A: Feathers regrowing well other than tail. Still does not have enough feathers to fly. Should be able to fly with tail in current condition once fully molts wings. Not eating everything but maintaining weight.

O: Removed 9 g of scrap and 1 cast from cage. Duoderm over R leg intact. Duoderm over L leg fell off during catch. Gently cleaned with dilute chlorhex and placed new duoderm patch. Wound in lower left of mouth beginning to come up but part of scab is still well adhered and vascular underneath. Small scab in upper left of mouth removed easily with CTA, healthy tissue underneath and no bleeding. Dropped 18 g of mouse with meds in it.

O: Mild/superficial scabbing over keel. Legs look worse - cranial aspects of both TMTs are dying off, causing mild swelling of feet distal to wounds from constriction injury. Scab starting to lift off the lateral proximal aspect on the L leg, can see tendon underneath. Covered TMTs with duoderm dressing. Wound present above L eye. Scabs now present on the lower and upper parts of the beak on both sides of the mouth from medications.

A: Patient appears to have irritated L TMT wound and need some topical ointment. Wound was not actively bleeding prior to catch and just had tiny spot of blood after being in hand for a few minutes. Scales on dorsal aspect of both TMTs seem to be sloughing off, worse on the L than the R. Most of SQ fluids appear to have absorbed. Bird appears very dehydrated with sunken eyes, but still BAR and biting. Laid on back to draw blood from the R basilic vein - only able to get a drop, small hematoma post blood draw.

A: Pt presented with the vast majority of her flight feathers singed, likely from the exhaust towers at the Ameren plant she was found. She is thin and has mild dehydration, otherwise does not appear to have any other injuries. Prognosis is guarded until we're sure no additional issues develop. Regardless, this bird will likely be in care for an extended amount of time in order for enough feathers to molt to allow her to be flighted.
